Guilt Free Apple Pie with Essential Oils

apple-pieApple pie is a staple at most homes during the holidays because of tradition and its spicy and fruity flavor. We added a twist to this American classic by flavoring this sweet (and sometimes tart) dessert with dōTERRA essential oils for additional health benefits and flavor. We also substituted honey or agave as a sweetener instead of sugar. This year, do without the guilt and happily treat yourself to a slice of pie (or two). Bring this version of apple pie to a party and see how many compliments you can receive from this lighter, healthier, and tastier apple pie.

Ingredients:

10 cups apple pieces (sliced and peeled)

1/2 cup water

2/3 cup honey or agave

2/3 cup flour

1/4 tsp. salt

1 drop dōTERRA cinnamon essential oil

1 toothpick dōTERRA ginger essential oil

1 toothpick dōTERRA clove essential oil

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

1 drop dōTERRA lemon essential oil

Prepared double crust (Gluten free or whole wheat pie crusts are available at most health food stores).

Directions: 

Mix all ingredients in a pan and place in preheated oven at 350 degrees. Cook until apples are soft and then cool before placing in pie crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
